Enviro News Asia, Washington D.C. — The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Washington D.C. held a thanksgiving ceremony to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), honoring the dedication and service of TNI in safeguarding national sovereignty and advancing Indonesia’s defense diplomacy on the global stage.
The event was attended by Indroyono Soesilo, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the United States; Air Commodore (Marsma) E. Wisoko Aribowo, S.E., M.Si., Defense Attaché of the Republic of Indonesia; embassy officials and staff; members of IKKT PWA Liaison for the United States and the Indonesian Women’s Association (Dharma Wanita Persatuan) of the Embassy; as well as TNI Officer Students currently pursuing studies at the National Defense University (NDU) in Washington, D.C., together with their families.
In a warm and collegial atmosphere, the Indonesian Embassy community expressed gratitude and appreciation for TNI’s unwavering commitment over eight decades as the guardian of Indonesia’s sovereignty and a symbol of national unity.
In his remarks, Ambassador Indroyono Soesilo emphasized that the 80th TNI Anniversary serves as a moment of reflection to strengthen the spirit of professionalism, discipline, and dedication of Indonesian soldiers wherever they serve.
“In the early years of independence, TNI and diplomacy were two inseparable pillars in defending Indonesia’s sovereignty. The combination of military struggle and smart diplomacy ensured that the independence proclaimed on August 17, 1945, was recognized de jure by the international community,” said Ambassador Indroyono.
He also underlined the importance of embracing leadership values within TNI — characterized by integrity, professionalism, and meritocracy — which resonate with the main message of this year’s TNI anniversary in Jakarta. These values, he noted, are crucial in preparing TNI to meet future challenges through mastery of science, defense technology, and a firm commitment to protecting Indonesia’s natural resources for the prosperity of its people.
The commemoration also highlighted TNI’s growing contribution to international peace and stability, exemplified by the recent multinational joint exercise “Super Garuda Shield 2025”, conducted in Indonesia with participation from 13 partner nations. The exercise reflects Indonesia’s active role in fostering defense cooperation and regional stability across the Indo-Pacific.
The 80th Anniversary celebration at the Indonesian Embassy in Washington D.C. was more than just a ceremonial event — it underscored that TNI stands as a symbol of professionalism, dedication, and national pride, representing Indonesia not only as a defender of sovereignty at home but also as a steadfast contributor to global peace through constructive and forward-looking defense diplomacy.
