Preparing Quality Graduates, UPNVJ Strengthens Digital Curriculum

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – The professional world no longer seeks graduates based solely on high Grade Point Averages (GPA), but rather individuals who are tech-savvy and capable of innovation.

In response to this challenge, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) continues to transform its curriculum and strengthen digital competencies among all its students.

“In this digital era, the education sector must quickly adapt, including by adjusting its curriculum,” said UPNVJ Rector, Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA.Comm, as stated in an official release on Thursday (24/07/2025).

The Rector explained that UPNVJ has implemented an outcome-based education (OBE) curriculum review starting in the Odd Semester of the 2024/2025 Academic Year.

“The curriculum is designed to align with current industry needs, particularly in technology, digitalization, and entrepreneurship,” he added.

Practical components and project-based learning are also being enhanced to ensure students are accustomed to facing real-world challenges in today’s workforce.

Curriculum evaluations are conducted every four years, adapting to technological developments.

One of UPNVJ’s current priorities is to equip students with digital competencies such as data analysis and understanding digital transformation. “Without these skills, students risk falling behind and becoming victims of technological disruption,” said Prof. Venus.

UPNVJ has also established a Professional Certification Institute (LSP) that issues various digital certifications, including for data engineers, web programmers, cybersecurity analysts, and database programmers.

Since 2024, 2,000 students have earned international certifications such as Microsoft Office Specialist, Data Analytics, and Google Certified.

To support the learning process, UPNVJ has developed the Learning Activities through Digital System (LeADS) platform since 2021, enabling online, hybrid, and asynchronous learning systems.

“We are also beginning to integrate big data and AI into faculty research and project-based learning in study programs such as Information Systems and Informatics,” he added.

In addition to the Information Systems and Informatics programs, UPNVJ launched a Data Science program in 2024 and is currently preparing to open a Cybersecurity program. “Google has even listed information security analyst among the top 15 most promising careers globally, alongside data analyst and IT manager,” he explained.

Although the transformation journey presents significant challenges, Prof. Venus remains optimistic. “Human resource and infrastructure readiness are indeed major challenges.

However, with shared commitment, a strong vision, and strategic investment, we believe UPNVJ can continue to produce outstanding graduates who are adaptive to the future,” he concluded. (*)
