Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — The Presidential Staff Office outlined recent progress in strengthening national energy resilience during a press conference in Jakarta on March 18, 2026, ahead of the Nyepi and Eid holidays.
Head of the Presidential Staff Office Muhammad Qodari presented key achievements under the government’s priority programs, including solar power expansion, electricity access initiatives, and energy supply readiness for Idulfitri 2026.
He emphasized that energy security remains a central pillar of national independence, in line with the vision of President Prabowo Subianto, with a focus on equitable access and transition toward clean energy.
The government continues to accelerate solar power development, targeting 100 gigawatts of installed capacity. As of 2025, solar utilization has reached 1.49 gigawatts, with off-grid solar programs significantly improving electricity access in remote areas.
In Sumenep Regency, solar power installations have provided electricity to hundreds of households in remote islands, replacing limited diesel-based systems and offering more reliable and cost-efficient energy.
The Electricity Installation Assistance Program has also exceeded its target, reaching more than 220,000 households nationwide. The initiative provides complete installation packages, including lighting, electrical connections, and initial electricity credits, contributing to improved living standards and economic activity.
To ensure energy security during the Eid holiday period, the government has activated the national energy sector command post from March 12 to 31, 2026. The national electricity system is projected to maintain a reserve margin of approximately 9.3 percent, ensuring stable supply during peak demand.
State electricity company PLN has prepared 1,681 electric vehicle charging stations across 994 locations along major travel routes, supporting the growing number of electric vehicle users during the holiday season.
Fuel and LPG distribution is also being secured through continuous operations at fuel terminals, gas stations, and LPG distribution points nationwide to ensure uninterrupted supply.
The government stated that these measures aim to provide the public with a safe, comfortable, and reliable energy supply during the holiday period while reinforcing long-term national energy resilience. (*)
