Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — Prof. Dr. Drs. Anter Venus, M.A., Comm. received overwhelming support in the screening process for Rector of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) for the 2026–2030 term after securing 30 of the 34 votes cast by members of the University Senate.
The voting took place during a closed Senate meeting held in the Nusantara 1 Meeting Room at the UPNVJ Pondok Labu Campus in Jakarta on July 30, 2026. Based on the official vote count, Prof. Anter Venus, candidate number two, obtained 30 votes, representing approximately 88.2 percent of the total Senate votes.
Candidate number three, Prof. Dr. Drs. Abdul Halim, S.H., M.Ag., and candidate number four, Prof. Dr. Memen Kustiawan, S.E., M.Si., M.H., Ak., CA., CPA., each received two votes. Meanwhile, candidate number one, Dr. Sakroni, S.ST., M.Pd., did not receive any votes during the screening process.
The results officially designated Prof. Anter Venus, Prof. Abdul Halim, and Prof. Memen Kustiawan as the three rector candidates eligible to proceed to the final Rector Election for the 2026–2030 term.
The three candidates were subsequently endorsed by UPNVJ Senate Chair Dr. Irsyaf Marsal, S.H., M.H. The screening results will be submitted to Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology for the next stage of the rector selection process, which will involve the Minister.
The voting followed presentations by the four prospective candidates, who delivered their respective visions, missions, and work programs at the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Auditorium on the UPNVJ Pondok Labu Campus earlier the same day. During the session, each candidate outlined policy directions, strategies for institutional development, and priority programs they would implement if elected rector.
Prof. Anter Venus’s vision was widely viewed as aligning with the expectations of Senate members, who emphasized the importance of institutional transformation and adaptation to the rapidly evolving higher education landscape.
The Senate’s decision was formalized as the basis for determining the three official rector candidates. The screening process considered each candidate’s leadership track record, managerial capacity, vision for university development, and the relevance of their proposed programs to UPNVJ’s future needs.
With the completion of the Senate-level screening, UPNVJ has concluded the first stage of its 2026–2030 rector election process. The selection will now proceed to the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, where the final rector will be chosen.
The rector election is regarded as strategically important for ensuring the continuity of UPNVJ’s academic and institutional transformation. The future rector is expected to strengthen the quality of education, research, community service, governance, digital transformation, and the university’s reputation at both the national and international levels.
Through this election process, UPNVJ reaffirms its commitment to fostering leadership that is visionary, adaptive, innovative, accountable, and rooted in integrity while continuing the university’s transformation as a leading State Defense University with global competitiveness and meaningful societal impact.
