Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – The Ministry of Forestry, through the Directorate General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE), has presented the 2025 Satya Wanaraksa Award.
This award serves as a form of appreciation for the dedication and initiatives of conservation activists in protecting the sustainability of conservation areas and biodiversity.
The award ceremony was held in conjunction with a symposium organized in collaboration with the Wildlife Conservation Society Indonesia Program.
“This symposium is not merely a presentation forum, but also a space for reflection and inspiration,” said Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni in his opening remarks at the event, held on Thursday (August 7, 2025) in Jakarta.
According to the Minister, the symposium showcases how field-based empirical experiences in addressing the complexities of conflict, poaching threats, and restoration efforts can generate practical innovations that inspire change.
Prior to the award presentation, a symposium session was held for six finalists selected from 41 applicants.
They were asked to present their written work based on the S.A.R.A. stages (Scanning – Analysis – Response – Assessment) before a panel of judges who determined the award winners. After a rigorous selection and judging process, the Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park Agency was named the first-place winner of the 2025 Satya Wanaraksa Award for its paper entitled “Keeping Nature’s Voice Alive: Addressing Bird Poaching in the Biha RPTN of Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park through Social and Area Management Strategies.”
The Satya Wanaraksa Award Symposium, held at the Dr. Ir. Soejarwo Auditorium, Manggala Wanabakti Building, Jakarta, was attended by around 300 participants, including representatives from the University of Indonesia and Bogor Agricultural University, partner organizations, and officials and staff from the Ministry of Forestry.
On the occasion, KSDAE Director General Satyawan Pudyatmoko explained that the award is given to conservation activists from both government and non-government sectors who have demonstrated tangible contributions to conservation efforts.
It is hoped that the Satya Wanaraksa Award will inspire and initiate conservation activities elsewhere, thereby enhancing performance and commitment to preserving conservation areas.
For the record, the Satya Wanaraksa Award is part of the Road to National Nature Conservation Day (HKAN) 2025 series of events, which is held annually. (*)
