AgriTech4Egypt Initiative Strengthens Egypt–Italy Partnership to Deliver Market-Ready Agritech Solutions

Enviro News Asia, Cairo – The AgriTech4Egypt: Technological Innovation in the Agri‑Food Sector in Egypt initiative has been introduced as a strategic partnership between Egypt and Italy aimed at accelerating the transformation of research innovations into market-ready agricultural technology solutions for farmers and agri-food value-chain actors.

The project seeks to promote the development, deployment, and adoption of innovative agritech solutions to improve productivity, sustainability, and climate resilience across Egypt’s agricultural sector. It also aims to strengthen the capabilities of farmers, startups, and agribusiness stakeholders in responding to climate change, natural resource constraints, and food security challenges.

The initiative aligns with several national and international development frameworks, including Egypt Vision 2030, the 2030 Sustainable Agricultural Development Strategy, the Egypt Startup Charter, and Piano Mattei per l’Africa, Italy’s strategic cooperation program for African development.

As part of the program, AgriTech4Egypt will organize three innovation challenges aimed at supporting startups and innovation teams working in agricultural technology. Participants will receive an integrated support package that includes business development mentorship, scientific validation, tailored technical assistance, facilitated market access, and pilot testing with end-users.

The initiative is designed to create an enabling environment for knowledge exchange and agritech transfer by connecting Italy’s strengths in agricultural research and agribusiness innovation with the specific needs and market opportunities within Egypt’s agricultural sector.

Over a three-year period, the project will directly support 105 startups and innovation teams, representing at least 350 innovators, with a strong emphasis on youth- and women-led initiatives. Farmers and agri-food value-chain actors are expected to benefit from scalable and field-tested technologies that improve productivity, resource efficiency, and climate resilience.

The program is led by the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, a center within the CGIAR global research partnership. It is funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and supported through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.

The project is endorsed by the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation and the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and implemented in collaboration with the Agricultural Research Center of Egypt and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology.

The Alliance convened the first Project Steering Committee meeting in Cairo on March 9, 2026. The meeting marked the first official governance and strategic oversight session for the initiative ahead of its planned official launch in May 2026. The project also builds upon partnerships and lessons learned from a pilot program conducted in 2024. (*)
