ASEAN and Germany Reinforce Strategic Partnership at 9th AG-DPC Meeting

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta —ASEAN and Germany reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening development cooperation during the 9th ASEAN-Germany Development Partnership Committee (AG-DPC) Meeting held on 28 November 2025 at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta. Both parties reviewed ongoing collaborative initiatives and discussed priorities to advance regional integration and sustainable development.

The meeting acknowledged the outcomes of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur and received updates on the implementation of the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) Work Plan IV. Delegates also discussed progress under the ASEAN Smart Cities Network and ASEAN’s broader agenda to promote sustainable development across the region.

Germany provided briefings on its domestic developments, its strategic responses to regional and global challenges, and its economic outlook. The discussions highlighted areas where enhanced cooperation could support joint objectives and address emerging issues.

Both sides evaluated the implementation of the ASEAN-Germany Practical Cooperation Areas (2023–2027) and commended the positive progress achieved to date. The meeting stressed the importance of completing remaining action lines to maintain program effectiveness.

To sustain momentum, ASEAN and Germany emphasized the need for deeper engagement in key sectors, including disaster management, humanitarian assistance, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), food and agriculture, forestry and agroforestry, energy security, energy transition, climate cooperation, and environmental protection. The parties also recognized the importance of expanding outreach efforts to raise awareness of the partnership among relevant stakeholders.

The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Secretary-General for Community and Corporate Affairs Nararya S. Soeprapto and German Ambassador to ASEAN Ralf Beste, with participation from members of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN and their representatives. (*)
