Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), supported by the ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project (ACCEPT), hosted students from Sampoerna University and the Institute of Science Tokyo on 26 August 2025 in Jakarta. The visit was part of the Building Entrepreneurial Mindset for Sustainable Technology and Society (BESTS) programme, which focuses on raising youth awareness of the energy–climate nexus and encouraging entrepreneurial approaches to climate action.
The event began with opening remarks from Mr. Muhammad Rizki Kresnawan, Senior Energy Modeller of ACE’s Energy Modelling and Policy Planning Department, representing ACCEPT, followed by Dr. Zulfikar Yurnaidi, Head of the department. Prof. Eri Ota of the Institute of Science Tokyo also addressed the participants, underscoring the importance of climate awareness and opportunities for youth engagement.
Mr. Beni Suryadi, Senior Manager of the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) Department, delivered an interactive lecture titled “SDG 7 & 13: Clean Energy and Climate Action in ASEAN.” He discussed the role of energy in regional development, the connection between energy and climate challenges, and how youth can contribute to sustainable solutions. Delegates joined through live polls, sharing perspectives on net zero and renewable energy in ASEAN, and later contributed ideas for blog articles to be published on ACCEPT’s website.
During the discussion, Ir. Farid Triawan, D.Eng., Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Sampoerna University, stressed the role of renewable energy and efficiency in entrepreneurship. He highlighted that energy efficiency should be central in developing innovative business models to advance climate action.
Following the lecture, participants toured ACE Headquarters, guided by Mr. Rizki Kresnawan, Mr. Muhammad Ilham Rizaldi, and Ms. Indira Pradnyaswari. The tour featured ACE’s Wall of Knowledge and rooftop solar panel installation, offering an interactive learning experience.
ACE and ACCEPT reaffirmed their commitment to supporting an inclusive and sustainable energy transition by equipping youth with knowledge, tools, and opportunities to play an active role in shaping the region’s energy future. (*)
