Climate Week NYC 2025 Concludes with Call to Turn Promises into Real Action

Enviro News Asia, New York — The annual Climate Week New York City 2025 officially concluded with a strong call to translate climate pledges into tangible action. Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), stressed that the world can no longer afford to delay the green transition.

Throughout the forum, more than 120 countries and the European Union announced updated emissions reduction targets. China, for instance, committed to cutting emissions by 7–10 percent from its peak levels by 2035.

On the private sector front, several global companies pledged to advance low-carbon cement production, strengthen circular economy practices, and decarbonize supply chains. New partnerships were also launched, including cooperation between the city of Kyiv and Denmark on forest restoration, as well as knowledge-sharing between New York and Copenhagen on stormwater management.

Green finance emerged as another central theme. Discussions highlighted the urgent need to redirect capital from fossil fuels toward clean energy, while enhancing incentives for private investors.

Despite ongoing geopolitical challenges, leaders reaffirmed that the urgency of climate action must not be postponed. The European Union even pledged to finalize new climate targets in the coming weeks.

The closing of Climate Week was widely viewed as a stepping stone toward COP30 in Brazil, where the commitments announced are expected to be transformed into concrete national policies. (*)
