Enviro News Asia, Abu Dhabi — India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have reaffirmed their shared commitment to addressing global challenges in environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and climate change. The commitment was expressed during a bilateral meeting between India’s Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, and the UAE’s Minister of Climate Change and Environment, H.E. Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi, on the sidelines of the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025 in Abu Dhabi.
“India and the UAE, as key global partners, have a unique opportunity to collaborate on innovative solutions to pressing environmental challenges,” said Shri Singh.
During the meeting, Shri Singh expressed appreciation to the UAE for its significant role in championing the interests of Global South countries at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28), which resulted in several landmark decisions such as the establishment of the Loss and Damage Fund and the Global Goal on Adaptation.
Reaffirming India’s commitment to climate action and nature conservation, Shri Singh praised the ambitious climate initiatives led by the UAE and Indonesia, particularly the Mangrove Alliance for Climate (MAC). He highlighted the alliance as a tangible example of multilateral cooperation in building climate resilience and conserving biodiversity.
Shri Singh also thanked the UAE for its partnership in global initiatives spearheaded by India, including the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy Industry Coalition (RECEIC). He invited the UAE to join other key global initiatives such as the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) and the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT).
The Indian Minister further encouraged support for India’s visionary Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) program, which promotes sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyles. Minister Al Dahak welcomed the initiative and expressed interest in exploring its implementation within the UAE.
Shri Singh concluded the meeting by emphasizing the importance of enhancing India–UAE cooperation across international forums, including BRICS. He noted that as one of BRICS’ newest and most influential members, the UAE plays a strategic role in deepening collaboration with India to advance global sustainable development.
