Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – Jakarta, February 19, 2025. The governments of Indonesia and the Kingdom of Norway have agreed to extend their climate and forestry cooperation based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) until 2030.
This extension strengthens the long-established partnership while reaffirming both countries’ commitment to achieving ambitious climate targets in the forestry and land-use sectors.
“This year, we celebrate a very important day, as Indonesia and Norway have worked together for 75 years, building bilateral cooperation and jointly addressing various global challenges, including climate change and global warming,” said Raja Juli Antoni, Indonesia’s Minister of Forestry, during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday (19/2/2025).
To date, Norway has contributed USD 216 million for Indonesia’s verified results in reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, distributed through four phases of the Result-Based Contribution (RBC). Norway’s results-based contributions are managed by the Indonesian government through the Environmental Fund Management Agency (BPDLH).
On the same occasion, Norway’s Minister of Climate and Environment, Andreas Bjelland Eriksen, expressed his appreciation for Indonesia’s leadership and its crucial role in global climate action.
“Norway is honored to continue working with Indonesia as a key partner in combating climate change and protecting biodiversity. This extension reaffirms our long-term commitment to supporting Indonesia’s efforts in safeguarding forests and the global climate for future generations,” said Minister Eriksen.
During the event, Minister Antoni also announced the Second Period of the Community Fund Service for the Environment, which aims to reach more communities and provide broader opportunities for those concerned with forestry and environmental issues.
“The registration process is very easy—by simply accessing the BPDLH website, proposals can be processed digitally without prolonging the process or burdening the public,” he stated.
