Indonesia Ready to Strengthen Green Diplomacy at COP30 UNFCCC After Meeting Brazilian President

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni accompanied President Prabowo Subianto in welcoming Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. In the near future, Minister Antoni is set to visit Brazil for a series of strategic engagements focused on forestry cooperation and climate change.

“There are several important agendas in Brazil related to forestry collaboration and climate action,” said Minister Antoni at the Palace on Thursday (October 23, 2025).

The series of events will begin on November 4, 2025, in Rio de Janeiro, where Minister Antoni will attend an invitation from The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales for the United for Wildlife Global Summit & High-Level Ministerial Roundtable.

The meeting will discuss joint efforts among countries and international organizations to strengthen global action against environmental crimes and highlight the role of local communities—covering illegal logging, illegal mining, and wildlife trafficking.

“Local communities are among those most affected by these crimes. Therefore, our presence at this forum represents Indonesia’s commitment to a fair global collaboration to protect wildlife and their ecosystems,” said Minister Antoni.

On November 6–7, 2025, Minister Antoni will accompany the Presidential Envoy for Climate Change and Energy, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, at the UNFCCC COP30 Climate Change Summit in Belém, Brazil.

“At this forum, Presidential Envoy Mr. Hashim Djojohadikusumo will deliver Indonesia’s national statement reaffirming our commitment to climate action, energy transition, and the FOLU Net Sink 2030 target. Indonesia will bring a key message to COP30 that tropical forests are a global asset that must be managed fairly and sustainably,” he explained.

Following COP30, Minister Antoni will continue to São Paulo to participate in a Business Roundtable organized by the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA).

During this event, the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) to enhance transparency and credibility in carbon market mechanisms.

After the bilateral meeting, President Prabowo stated that he would send a strong Indonesian delegation to attend COP30 in Belém, Brazil, and expressed his support for Brazil’s leadership in hosting the summit.

“I fully support Brazil’s leadership at COP30. I did apologize as I might not be able to attend COP30 in Belém personally, but I will send a strong delegation to represent Indonesia and to support Brazil’s initiatives,” President Prabowo said. (*)
