Indonesia Strengthens Cross-Sector Collaboration to Advance Biodiversity-Based Economic Growth

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – The Indonesian government is strengthening collaboration with the private sector, academia, research institutions, and civil society through the Indonesia Biodiversity Business Forum to position biodiversity as a key pillar of the country’s sustainable economic growth strategy.

The forum promotes stronger partnerships to integrate biodiversity conservation into business and development policies while creating new economic opportunities that support environmental sustainability.
Key priorities include the development of biodiversity credit mechanisms, the strengthening of Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) frameworks, and expanding cross-sector collaboration to ensure the sustainable use of Indonesia’s rich biological resources.

These initiatives are expected to encourage greater private sector participation in biodiversity conservation while ensuring that the benefits derived from genetic resources are shared fairly and equitably with local communities and other stakeholders.

The government emphasized that protecting biodiversity should not only be viewed as a shared environmental responsibility but also as a long-term investment capable of supporting economic resilience, improving community welfare, and advancing sustainable national development.

By fostering collaboration among government agencies, businesses, researchers, and civil society organizations, Indonesia aims to build an inclusive biodiversity economy that balances conservation with sustainable economic growth. (*)
