Enviro News Asia, Washington, D.C. – Prof. Dr. Ir. Dwisuryo Indroyono Soesilo has arrived in Washington, D.C. to officially begin his assignment as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the United States on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
Indroyono was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, on August 25, 2025, in Jakarta.
Ambassador Indroyono Soesilo is widely recognized as a scientist, diplomat, and seasoned policymaker with a long track record in maritime affairs, fisheries, and sustainable development.
He previously served as Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for People’s Welfare, and Head of the Marine and Fisheries Research Agency.
Internationally, Indroyono also held the position of Director for Fisheries and Aquaculture at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
His appointment ends a vacancy in Indonesia’s ambassadorial post in Washington, D.C. that lasted for more than two years. His presence is therefore expected to bring renewed momentum to strengthening the Indonesia–United States Comprehensive Strategic Partnership declared by the two Presidents in 2023.
Indonesia is committed to expanding cooperation in critical minerals, sustainable development, education, defense, and people-to-people relations between the two nations.
On this occasion, Ambassador Indroyono Soesilo stated, “I am ready to work with various partners in the United States to further strengthen Indonesia–U.S. relations across multiple sectors, for the achievement of peace, economic progress, and shared prosperity,” he said.
Following Ambassador Indroyono Soesilo’s arrival, a handover ceremony was also held, transferring duties and responsibilities from the Chargé d’Affaires ad Interim (CdA), Nidya Kartikasari, to the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia. (*)
