Industrial Centers Must Set an Example for Sustainable Environmental Management

Enviro News Asia, Tangerang – Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq has called on all industry players in Jatiuwung District, Tangerang City, to strengthen their commitment to environmental management.

He also encouraged the transformation of industrial zones into more environmentally friendly areas.

Speaking before industrial zone managers, company representatives, and local government officials, Minister Hanif emphasized that the industrial sector is a key driver of the national economy.

However, he stressed that sustainability can only be achieved if environmental management is made a priority in every business process.

“We want to build an advanced industry, but one that is also environmentally friendly. This means that economic growth must go hand in hand with environmental preservation,” said Minister Hanif in his official statement.

Jatiuwung District, one of the largest industrial centers in Tangerang, is home to 32 industries with a total of 185 emission chimneys from various production processes.

During this visit, the Ministry of Environment conducted field verifications on 20 emission-producing industries and provided technical guidance on industrial air quality monitoring, hazardous and toxic waste (B3) management, and the implementation of environmentally friendly technologies integrated into the national system.

Minister Hanif highlighted the importance of installing real-time emission and water quality monitoring devices connected to the Ministry’s monitoring system, responsible industrial waste management, and active community participation through environmental communication forums.

“Our approach is coaching and assistance so that every industry player understands and is capable of meeting environmental standards. However, this commitment must come from within—from the awareness that environmentally conscious industries will be more resilient and competitive,” Minister Hanif explained.

President Director of PT Gajah Tunggal Tbk, Sugeng Rahardjo, expressed full support for the government’s initiatives and affirmed the company’s readiness to collaborate in creating a highly competitive yet sustainable industrial zone.

Tangerang Mayor Sachrudin also expressed strong support from the local government for environmental control programs in industrial areas.

“The Tangerang City Government is committed to continuing collaboration with the central government and industry players to achieve sustainable environmental management,” said Sachrudin. (*)
