Kazakhstan Faces Another Wave of Fog and Dust Storms

Enviro News Asia – Astana — The Kazakhstan Meteorological Agency (Kazhydromet) has issued an extreme weather warning for 14 regions across the country due to potential thick fog, dust storms, strong winds, and a high risk of wildfires.

Fog is expected to blanket the regions of Atyrau, West Kazakhstan, Abai, East Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, Mangistau, and Kostanay. Meanwhile, dust storms are predicted to hit the Kyzylorda and Turkistan regions, which are known for their arid and desert climates.

According to Kazhydromet, the conditions are triggered by extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night, as well as strong winds across the southern and western parts of the country. Similar phenomena often occur during autumn and early summer when dry soil is easily lifted by the wind to form dust clouds.

In addition to reducing visibility and air quality, dust storms may disrupt transportation activities and increase the risk of respiratory problems. Local governments have been advised to remain alert and prepared for the potential impacts of this extreme weather event. (*)
