Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Environmental Control Agency (KLH/BPLH) has reaffirmed its readiness to implement and oversee the government’s strategic environmental policies outlined by President Prabowo Subianto, with a focus on environmental protection, ecological justice and equitable public welfare.
The commitment follows President Prabowo’s State of the Nation Address at the Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) in Jakarta on August 14, 2026. KLH/BPLH said the government’s environmental agenda is aimed at ensuring that the preservation of natural resources and ecological justice contribute directly to shared prosperity.
In his address, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of protecting Indonesia’s national interests, including ensuring that the country’s natural wealth is managed for the benefit of all citizens.
“Second, we must safeguard, uphold and protect vital national interests. This includes preserving and managing Indonesia’s wealth so that it can be fully utilized for the prosperity of all Indonesian people,” Prabowo said.
In response, KLH/BPLH said it would prioritize the protection of natural resources, social justice and practical solutions for communities at the local level.
The ministry is committed to strengthening sustainable resource management so that the benefits of a healthy and well-preserved environment can be shared more equitably across society.
The approach is aligned with the principle of “No Generation Left Behind,” which seeks to protect the rights of future generations to a healthy environment while ensuring that today’s green transition does not create new economic or environmental burdens for them.
Environment Minister and Head of BPLH Moh Jumhur Hidayat said environmental policy must ensure that the benefits generated from Indonesia’s natural wealth are accessible to society as a whole.
“This is our shared commitment to the principle of no generation left behind: ensuring that today’s green transition becomes a legacy of prosperity, rather than a burden for the future,” Jumhur said.
KLH/BPLH also emphasized the importance of policies that support communities while protecting the country from environmental and climate-related threats. These include the economic challenges that may arise from the impacts of global climate change.
The ministry said strong cross-sectoral cooperation will be essential to advancing Indonesia’s green transformation. Such collaboration is expected not only to protect national ecosystems but also to establish a foundation for resilient and equitable economic growth.
KLH/BPLH said it will continue to translate the President’s environmental policy direction into concrete programs that balance environmental sustainability, natural resource management and public welfare.
The ministry views the green transformation as an opportunity to ensure that Indonesia’s natural wealth remains protected while contributing to inclusive prosperity for current and future generations. (*)
