Lambung Mangkurat University Promotes Green Innovation from the Heart of Borneo to the World

Enviro News Asia, Banjarmasin — Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) hosted the 2nd KUUB Postgraduate by Research Colloquium (KPRC) and The 6th International Conference on Chemical Engineering and Applied Sciences (ICChEAS) at Fugo Hotel Banjarmasin on Thursday (October 16, 2025).

Carrying the theme “Borneo’s Mangroves: A Nexus of Biodiversity, Sustainable Future, and Carbon Sequestration,” the conference was held in a hybrid format and brought together researchers from Japan, Australia, Brunei, and Indonesia.

This event served as a platform for researchers, policymakers, and industry experts to exchange insights, foster innovation, and develop strategies to preserve mangroves — vital centers of biodiversity and natural carbon sinks — paving the way toward a more sustainable future for Borneo and the world.

The Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, attended and delivered the opening remarks, in which he discussed the importance of Green Chemistry.

“Green chemistry is not just a scientific framework; it’s an ethical compass for modern innovation,” he stated.

Dr. Hanif also emphasized that the path toward a sustainable green industry begins in the realm of education — one that nurtures systematic thinking, ethics, and social empathy.

As a member of the Konsorsium Universiti Universitas Borneo (KUUB), ULM plays a central role in building bridges of cross-border research collaboration. ULM Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Si., in his opening speech, affirmed that this conference demonstrates the university’s tangible contribution to addressing global issues.

“ULM is committed to producing research that is not only academically valuable but also offers solutions to environmental and sustainable development challenges,” he stressed.

Through this event, ULM reinforces its position as a World Class University — excelling not only in academics but also in contributing actively to global solutions through green research and international collaboration. (*)
