Minister of Environment Reaffirms Indonesia’s Commitment to Climate Issues

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – The Minister of Environment and Head of the Environmental Control Agency (BPLH), Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, reaffirmed Indonesia’s consistent commitment to addressing climate change issues. He emphasized that Indonesia remains steadfast in its efforts despite the United States’ withdrawal from the Paris Agreement under President Donald Trump’s administration.

Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq made this statement during a Working Meeting with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR-RI) at the Senayan Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.

“This policy aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment, which he has conveyed in several international forums,” Hanif stated.

During the G20 Summit in Brazil in November 2025, President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed Indonesia’s stance, emphasizing the country’s commitment to taking strategic steps in addressing climate issues to mitigate global temperature rise.

“We follow President Prabowo Subianto’s official directive, which he delivered at the G20 Summit in Brazil,” Minister Hanif said, stressing that Indonesia remains unaffected by the United States’ decision to exit the Paris Agreement.

The Paris Agreement is an international treaty adopted at COP21 on December 12, 2015, in Paris, France. Its objective is to combat climate change by limiting the global average temperature increase to below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. This legally binding international agreement has been adopted by 196 parties, including Indonesia. As a signatory, Indonesia ratified the Paris Agreement into national law through Law No. 16 of 2016.

Minister Hanif outlined that the Ministry of Environment’s 2025 programs are based on Asta Cita, which focuses on achieving self-sufficiency in water and green economy, downstream industrialization of natural resources, and climate-resilient development.

He further explained that this year’s environmental development theme is the optimization of the circular economy and carbon economic value, aimed at enhancing food and energy security to support sustainable development.
