Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — The Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, Raja Juli Antoni, conducted a visit to the Wildlife Rescue Center (PPS) in Riau Province. The Minister of Forestry inspected animals undergoing quarantine and health examinations.
The Riau Wildlife Rescue Center collaborates with the Arsari Djojohadikusumo Foundation, owned by Hashim Djojohadikusumo. During his visit, the Minister was accompanied by the Inspector General of the Ministry of Forestry, Djoko Poerwanto, and his staff, on Friday (April 25, 2025).
At the site, Raja Juli inspected enclosures housing several animals currently in quarantine. There are 25 animals at the center, consisting of 16 primates, 6 mammals, and 3 birds.
These animals were handed over by the public to the Riau Natural Resources Conservation Agency (KSDA). They are then quarantined, given health checks, and cared for before being released back into the wild.
The visit continued with a tour of the animal clinic. There, Minister Raja Antoni observed a cockatoo undergoing a medical check-up (MCU) in the operating room.
PPS Site Manager Ponco Prabowo explained to the Minister about the various facilities available. The center is staffed by 2 veterinarians and 4 animal care specialists.
“The treatment facilities include quarantine cages, maintenance cages, isolation cages, and a feed warehouse. Meanwhile, health facilities include a clinic and medical equipment,” he said.
Ponco expressed his happiness over the visit and support from Minister Raja Antoni. He stated that under Raja Antoni’s leadership, collaboration with the Ministry of Forestry had become much easier. “I’m very happy the Minister came here, checked on us, and offered support — collaboration has become much smoother,” he said.
