Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – The Ministry of Environment has designated North Jakarta as a national pilot project for urban waste management.
Head of the Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, stated that in response to this trust from the central government, the Jakarta Environmental Agency has implemented several programs related to integrated waste management. “We are committed to maintaining this trust to the best of our ability,” said Asep Kuswanto in Jakarta on Friday, February 7, 2025.
For example, on Friday, the Jakarta Environmental Agency invited various waste management stakeholders to discuss the roadmap requested by the central government. Among those present at the meeting were the Indonesian Waste Bank Association (ASOBSI), the Indonesian Packaging Recovery Organization (IPRO), the Indonesian Plastic Recycling Association (ADUPI), the Jakarta Regional Leadership Board of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI), the Indonesian Shopping Center Management Association (APPBI), and other stakeholders.
“We will strive to ensure that the integrated waste management system operates down to the neighborhood level (Rukun Warga),” he said.
Therefore, the Jakarta government will encourage public participation in waste management through the ‘KuPiLah’ Program, which stands for Reduce-Sort-Process. The goal is for each neighborhood unit (RW) to have an independent waste management system that helps reduce household waste before it reaches the waste disposal site (TPS). “Additionally, optimizing waste banks is also part of our strategy to strengthen the circular economy concept,” Asep added.
