Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – In commemoration of World Environment Day on June 5, 2025, the Ministry of Environment is calling on all segments of society to join the national movement “United Gathering and Plastic Waste Clean-Up Action.”
This initiative aligns with the global theme “Ending Plastic Pollution.” It serves as a critical moment to raise collective awareness about the plastic waste emergency that threatens both the environment and public health.
“Let’s actively participate in cleaning up beaches, rivers, schools, markets, and places of worship in our communities as a concrete step toward a clean and sustainable Indonesia,” said Indonesia’s Minister of Environment, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, in an official statement on Friday (May 30, 2025).
Minister Hanif Faisol emphasized President Prabowo Subianto’s directive that waste issues must be fully resolved by the end of his administration in 2029.
“President Prabowo Subianto, through Presidential Regulation Number 12 of 2025 on the National Medium-Term Development Plan, has set a target of 100% waste resolution by 2029,” stated Minister Hanif.
In line with the government’s target to address 50% of the national waste problem by 2025, Minister Hanif has been intensifying field visits to identify regional challenges and explore opportunities for multi-stakeholder collaboration in sustainable waste management.
The Environment Minister reiterated that waste management is a shared responsibility.
The government invites all sectors of society, the private sector, and communities to collaborate continuously in creating a modern, sustainable, and inclusive waste management system. Public education and behavioral change are key to realizing a clean, healthy, and waste-free Indonesia.
