Ministry of Environment Prioritizes Circular Economy-Based Waste Management

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta –The Ministry of Environment/Environmental Control Agency (KLH/BPLH) is looking ahead to 2026 with renewed optimism. With a budget allocation that has increased by nearly 30 percent to Rp1.39 trillion, the institution is committed to accelerating the transformation of circular economy-based waste management, strengthening the integrity of carbon economic value, and safeguarding environmental quality in support of sustainable economic growth.

Minister of Environment/Head of BPLH, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, emphasized that this optimism is the result of concrete work carried out throughout 2025.
“We believe that steps toward a healthier environment and a stronger economy can only be achieved through penthahelix collaboration—government, business, academia, media, and society,” said Minister Hanif during a meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Friday (September 5, 2025).

One of KLH/BPLH’s main focuses in 2026 is the accelerated implementation of Government Regulation No. 26 of 2025 on the Environmental Protection and Management Plan (RPPLH). This regulation serves as a national guideline for sustainable development, with local governments and the Forum of Rectors engaged to strengthen research, innovation, and academic-based education.

Fiscal achievements are also bolstering this effort. As of September 2025, non-tax state revenue (PNBP) from the environmental sector had reached Rp287.77 billion—exceeding the target by more than threefold—and is projected to hit Rp549 billion by the end of the year.

“The 2026 environmental development theme guides us to spend every rupiah effectively and efficiently, maintaining environmental carrying capacity while supporting national economic growth,” Minister Hanif explained.

Legislative support has also become a key factor. Deputy Chairman of Commission XII of the DPR RI, Sugeng Suparwoto, noted that the budget discussions were intensive and conducted with prudence for the benefit of society.
Minister Hanif expressed his appreciation, adding, “We extend our deepest gratitude for the support of Commission XII of the DPR RI. Their recommendations and input will serve as a crucial reinforcement for us to carry out our environmental policies with greater confidence,” he concluded. (*)
