Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — PT Pertamina (Persero) continues to accelerate the development of renewable energy to support national electricity resilience amid global energy uncertainties.
The initiative aligns with directives from Prabowo Subianto to expedite energy transition and expand electricity-based energy utilization as part of Indonesia’s long-term energy independence strategy.
Amid fluctuating global energy prices, supply uncertainties, and increasing pressure to reduce emissions, Pertamina is strengthening the national energy mix by increasing the share of clean energy sources. As of 2025, the company has produced 8,743 GWh of clean electricity, supported by a total installed capacity of 3.1 gigawatts.
Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, Muhammad Baron, stated that the company continues to prioritize renewable energy development to ensure stable electricity supply while addressing global energy challenges.
He emphasized that energy diversification through renewable sources reduces dependence on fossil fuels, which are vulnerable to global market volatility, while also contributing to emissions reduction targets.
Pertamina’s renewable energy portfolio includes biogas power plants with a capacity of 2.4 MW, gas-to-power facilities totaling 1,772 MW, solar power plants with 55.3 MW capacity, and geothermal power plants reaching 727 MW.
In addition to large-scale projects, Pertamina is expanding clean energy access at the community level through the Desa Energi Berdikari (DEB) program. To date, 252 energy-independent villages have been developed across Indonesia, utilizing solar panels, micro-hydro systems, and biogas technology.
Through these initiatives, Pertamina aims to strengthen national energy resilience while promoting sustainable community-based energy independence. The company also reaffirms its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060 and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals through environmentally responsible and sustainable business practices.
