Supporting Sustainability and Local Economic Growth, Tjiwi Kimia Receives UMKM Partnership Award from BKPM Ministry

Jakarta, December 12, 2024 – PT Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia Tbk (Tjiwi Kimia), a business unit of APP Group, has been awarded for its dedication to building strategic partnerships with Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM). During the Forum Kemitraan Investasi 2024 organized by the Ministry of Investment and Industry Downstreaming/BKPM, Tjiwi Kimia received the Large Enterprise Award for Implementing Partnership Contracts with UMKM, reaffirming its role as a strategic partner in supporting local economic growth and sustainability.

In the opening speech of the Forum Kemitraan Investasi 2024, Minister of Investment and Industry Downstreaming/BKPM, Rosan P. Roeslani, emphasized the vital role of large enterprises not only in engaging UMKM in partnerships but also in empowering and improving human resource quality in Indonesia. “For economic growth to be sustainable and of high quality, the people must also be of high quality. Education and improving human resource quality in the regions are crucial,” said Rosan.

Rosan also revealed that the total value of partnerships between large enterprises and UMKM across Indonesia had reached IDR 3.9 trillion as of December 10, 2024, involving 158 large enterprises and 389 UMKM. He added, “We hope UMKM are prepared to collaborate with investors. Their readiness is essential as investments will continue to increase, creating multiplier effects and more jobs for future growth.”

As one of the companies actively supporting this program, Tjiwi Kimia has demonstrated its commitment through long-term partnerships with UMKM. This award acknowledges Tjiwi Kimia’s efforts in fostering strategic collaborations that not only strengthen the company’s supply chain but also provide economic opportunities for UMKM, support equitable economic development, and achieve global sustainability goals, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.

“Tjiwi Kimia believes that partnerships with UMKM are not just about supporting operational needs but also part of our responsibility to create positive impacts on society and the environment. This award motivates us to continue building sustainable and inclusive collaborations,” said Suhendra Wiriadinata, President Director of Tjiwi Kimia.

These strategic partnerships are implemented through innovative approaches. In its supply chain, Tjiwi Kimia involves more than 60 UMKM to supply raw materials such as Old Corrugated Containers (OCC) and Sorted White Ledger (SWL). Additionally, the company collaborates with five UMKM biomass producers to supply alternative fuels, replacing fossil fuels. This initiative not only helps reduce carbon emissions but also creates new economic opportunities for local UMKM in the renewable energy sector.

The award aligns with the event’s theme, emphasizing the importance of synergy between large enterprises and UMKM to support equitable economic growth and sustainability. Through collaborations across various sectors, including environmentally friendly raw materials and renewable energy, Tjiwi Kimia has demonstrated that large enterprises can be key drivers in creating an inclusive and sustainable business ecosystem.

“This collaboration reflects our vision to not only be a globally competitive company but also a reliable partner for local UMKM. We hope these efforts inspire other businesses to strengthen the UMKM sector as the backbone of Indonesia’s economy,” added Suhendra.

Suhendra further emphasized that in today’s business environment, sustainability is no longer an option; it is a moral obligation and the cornerstone of business strategy. This award underscores Tjiwi Kimia’s role as a company that prioritizes not only business success but also broader social and environmental impacts.
