Enviro News Asia, Makassar — PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) continues to reaffirm its commitment to sustainability through the GoZero% Roadshow Goes to Makassar held on October 17–18, 2025. Carrying the theme “Revive the Sea, Renew Our Future,” the event demonstrated Telkom’s concrete efforts to raise environmental awareness and strengthen sustainable culture, particularly among coastal communities in eastern Indonesia.
The event began with the GoZero% Innovation Festival, an internal innovation competition for Telkom Regional V employees focused on digital solutions based on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. A range of creative ideas emerged, from marine waste management and flood mitigation to IoT-based smart systems for coastal ecosystem preservation.
“Sustainability must grow as a culture, not just an initiative,” said EVP Telkom Regional V, Amin Soebagyo, in his opening remarks. “Through innovation and waste management, we learn to make sustainability a part of our daily life and shared responsibility.”
Meanwhile, Telkom’s VP of Sustainability, Gunawan Wasisto C.A., emphasized that the GoZero% program is built on three key pillars: save our planet, empower our people, and elevate our business. “It all begins with small steps that bring great impact for future generations. Sustainability is an investment in the future of Telkom and the nation,” he stated.
During the innovation festival, five teams from Telkom Regional V presented ideas with potential to support environmental conservation.
- The first prize went to the Witel Sulbagsel team with their Clean Ocean IoT (CLEOO) innovation — a smart ocean cleanliness monitoring system.
- The second prize was awarded to Witel Sumalut for Oceancare Marijo Jaga Laut, a collaborative initiative to protect coastal ecosystems.
- The third place went to Witel West Papua with SASI (Sampah Sikat), a data-driven flood mitigation system.
Makassar City Environmental Agency Head, Dr. Helmy Budiman, S.STP., M.M., gave high appreciation to Telkom’s initiative, highlighting the importance of cross-sector collaboration in achieving Makassar’s zero waste target by 2029.
“The goal is ambitious, but with collaboration among government, communities, and private sectors like Telkom, I believe it is achievable,” he said.
Through GoZero% Goes to Makassar, Telkom demonstrates that digital innovation not only strengthens business, but also serves as a catalyst for change toward a greener and more sustainable Indonesia. This program is expected to inspire the younger generation and industry players to take part in protecting the planet. (*)
