The University of Indonesia (UI) has once again achieved international recognition. Herdis Herdiansyah, lecturer and researcher in the Social Humanities Division at the School of Environmental Science, University of Indonesia (SIL UI), has been listed among the world’s top 2% scientists in 2025, as published by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier.
In an official statement, Prof. Dr. Supriatna, M.T., Director of the School of Environmental Science UI, expressed deep appreciation for this achievement.
“Herdis Herdiansyah’s recognition is clear evidence that SIL UI faculty and researchers are capable of making a significant contribution at the global level. Herdis has been ranked as the number one lecturer in the Social Humanities Division at UI for two consecutive years,” Supriatna explained.
He further emphasized that this milestone aligns with SIL UI’s vision of becoming a center of excellence in environmental research and education with broad academic and practical impact. According to him, this international recognition also strengthens UI’s standing as a world-class research university.
“This award is expected to motivate the entire academic community to continue producing research relevant to today’s challenges, from climate change and biodiversity conservation to the transition toward low-carbon development. We believe such achievements will inspire the younger generation to carry forward a strong tradition of scientific excellence,” he added.
Separately, Herdis expressed his gratitude while highlighting the importance of collaborative work. This marks the second consecutive year (2024 and 2025) that he has been included among the world’s most prominent scientists, reinforcing his contribution to environmental studies, community empowerment, and environmental economics.
“This recognition is not only for me personally, but for the entire research team, students, and collaborative networks who continue to work hard. It demonstrates that our research in environment, community empowerment, and sustainable development holds global relevance and contribution,” Herdis stated.
He also stressed that such recognition should serve as motivation for other Indonesian scholars. “Environmental challenges, from climate crises to forest fires, demand strong scientific approaches and cross-disciplinary collaboration. I hope more young Indonesian researchers will have the courage to emerge on the world stage,” he added.
The Top 2% Scientists Worldwide list is the result of bibliometric analysis conducted by Stanford University and Elsevier, covering millions of researchers across various disciplines. Assessment is based on publications, citations, h-index, and the impact of research on advancing knowledge.
