Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) made history as the first higher education institution in Indonesia to commemorate World Academic Integrity Day. The milestone was marked through a national seminar titled “Building Honest and Dignified Academic Integrity in the Digital Era”, held in a hybrid format on Wednesday (October 9) at the Faculty of Medicine Building, Pondok Labu Campus, Jakarta.
The event underscored UPNVJ’s strong commitment to upholding academic integrity values—honesty, responsibility, fairness, and trust—as the four fundamental pillars of ethical scholarship.
The seminar featured four distinguished speakers:
Dr. Chatarina Muliana Girsang, SH, SE, MH (Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology);
Dr. Henry Binsar Hamonangan Sitorus, MT (Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of UPNVJ);
Prof. Dr. Mudatsir, M.Kes (Head of LPPM, Universitas Syiah Kuala, and one of the world’s top 2% scientists according to Stanford University);
and Muhammad Raul Zikra Sarya (Coordinator of Social and Political Affairs, BEM FISIP UPNVJ).
Dr. Sri Lestari Wahyuningroem, Head of UPNVJ’s Academic Integrity Socialization Team, emphasized that the event aims to strengthen core academic values amid digital-era challenges.
“This seminar deepens understanding and reinforces the commitment of the academic community to uphold integrity as the foundation of knowledge development and the formation of dignified scholars,” she stated in UPNVJ’s official release.

UPNVJ Rector, Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm., stressed that Academic Integrity Week was not merely ceremonial but part of embedding ethical values into campus culture.
“We hope that every member of UPNVJ’s academic community cultivates collective awareness to uphold honesty, responsibility, fairness, and trust in all academic activities,” he remarked.
Beyond the seminar, UPNVJ launched a Pocketbook on Academic Integrity, educational materials, campaign merchandise, and the Call for Academic Integrity Ambassadors. The week’s events also included mural, poster, and essay competitions centered on the theme of integrity, engaging students from various faculties.
The initiative is expected to inspire other universities across Indonesia to foster a culture of integrity from an early stage.
“By making integrity the soul of higher education, we not only produce intellectually capable graduates but also individuals with character and social responsibility,” concluded Prof. Venus. (www.upnvj.ac.id)
