Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — The 48th Anniversary of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) delivered a strong message from the Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of the Republic of Indonesia, Police Commissioner General Prof. Dr. Ario Seto, S.I.K., S.H., M.Si. Speaking at the Studium Generale titled “Public Lecture by the Head of BNN RI for the UPNVJ Academic Community” on Wednesday (19 November 2025), he emphasized that university campuses have become highly vulnerable to illicit drug trafficking and must stand at the frontline of efforts to Prevent and Eradicate Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (P4GN).
In his presentation, Commissioner General Suyudi revealed an alarming finding: in 2025, BNN seized 12,000 hard pills at a campus cafeteria in the Serang area. “This is a serious warning. Campuses have become easy targets for drug syndicates,” he stated before hundreds of lecturers, education staff, and UPNVJ students. He underscored that higher education environments are no longer sterile and require increased collective vigilance.
Commissioner General Suyudi also outlined the global situation based on the World Drug Report 2024, which shows that the number of drug users worldwide reached 292 million people in 2022—an increase of 20 percent over the past decade. According to him, a humane and just law enforcement approach is essential to avoid creating new cycles of violence.
On this occasion, the BNN Chief detailed the five policy priorities of BNN for 2025–2029:
- Massive and innovative prevention,
- Professional and just enforcement,
- Humane and accessible rehabilitation,
- Strengthening research and technology, and
- National and international synergy.
He affirmed that the fight against drugs is part of President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita, particularly the seventh pillar, which emphasizes legal and governance reforms. “This is a national movement that requires unity from all elements of the nation,” he stated.
The event concluded with the presentation of souvenirs and a group photo session, reaffirming UPNVJ’s commitment as a university actively supporting national P4GN programs. Through this initiative, UPNVJ reinforces its role as a Kampus Bela Negara, dedicated to strengthening the resilience of the young generation against the threat of narcotics.
