Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – The Senate of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta (UPNVJ) has inaugurated two professors simultaneously: Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, M.A. Comm., and Prof. Dr. Taufiqurrohman, S.H., M.H.
Anter Venus has been appointed as a Professor in Communication Studies, while Taufiqurrohman has been appointed as a Professor in Law and State Affairs.
The Chairman of the UPNVJ Senate, Basuki Supartono, stated that the title of professor is not merely the highest academic achievement but should also be seen as a mandate. “This is a responsibility to pioneer the development of knowledge, intellectualism, and to uphold academic integrity,” said Basuki during the UPNVJ Senate Open Session for the Inauguration of Professors on Friday, February 14, 2025.
He emphasized that as professors, they are not only responsible for teaching but also for advancing knowledge through research for the benefit of the nation. He underlined that professors play a crucial role in education, research, and community service. “Professors must also uphold academic integrity and ensure that knowledge is based on scientific truth,” Basuki stressed.
Anter Venus, who is also the Rector of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta (UPNVJ), delivered his inaugural speech titled “Indonesian Communication Values: Exploration for a Systematic Model.” He explained that the use of the Indonesian language fosters an egalitarian way of expression while also reflecting the Indonesian people’s worldview in their daily realities.
Through his research, Anter Venus identified a unique Indonesian perspective on communication. “The Indonesian perspective on communication is centered on the heart,” he said.
He explained that the heart serves as the center of emotion, morality, and spirituality. From the heart emerges the core communication value known as budi (wisdom), which in communication is operationalized into budi bahasa (courteous language) and budi bicara (wise speech). “The core value of budi balances communication between emotional (heart) and rational (mind) aspects. This core value serves as a reference for ten instrumental values in communication behavior and five communication principles,” he elaborated.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Taufiqurrohman, S.H., M.H., delivered his inaugural speech titled “Harmonizing the Principles of Democracy, Nomocracy, and Theocracy for a Just State Law Based on the Constitution.” In his speech, Taufiqurrohman stated that the application of democracy without legal sovereignty and divine sovereignty could lead to political decisions that, while legal, may lack justice, which is the essence of belief in the Almighty God.
Conversely, he added, the implementation of legal sovereignty without democracy and divine sovereignty could result in written laws that lack ethical essence and justice. “The application of divine sovereignty without democracy and law could lead to an authoritarian or absolute power state,” he explained.
