UPNVJ Promotes Household Waste Utilization Through Workshop

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta (UPNVJ) is encouraging the transformation of household waste into useful and economically valuable items.

In line with this effort, the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of UPNVJ organized a workshop on repurposing used materials.

The workshop, held on Wednesday (July 30, 2025), carried the theme “Utilizing Unused Items and Household Waste to Create Added Value,” and took place at UPNVJ’s Pondok Labu campus.

A total of 100 participants joined the event, consisting of members of the UPNVJ community and local residents.

Nantia Rena Venus, Chair of DWP UPNVJ, stated that the aim of the event was to raise awareness and improve the skills of DWP members and the surrounding community in managing household waste into functional and economically viable products.

The workshop is also part of UPNVJ’s contribution to supporting sustainability programs and reducing household waste.

“We hope this activity inspires participants to be more mindful in managing waste, while also creating business opportunities from items that were previously considered useless,” said Nantia Rena Venus in her official statement.

DWP UPNVJ is an organization uniting Civil Servants (PNS), their spouses, and the extended UPNVJ family.

DWP actively engages in social initiatives that are an integral part of public service duties, not only for the academic community but also for the surrounding society.

During the workshop, participants received hands-on training from experienced speakers in the fields of recycling and handicrafts, namely Siti Rahayu and Marni Dewi Yanti.

They were also guided in creating creative products from used materials, such as bags made from plastic packaging, plant pots from used bottles, aromatherapy candles, and crafts from fabric scraps. (www.upnvj.ac.id)
