UPNVJ Strengthens Scientific Journal Quality Through DOAJ 2025 Training

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – Amidst the global flow of information openness and digital transformation, the quality and visibility of scientific publications are crucial elements in strengthening academic reputation and research impact.

To address these challenges, the DOAJ Global Outreach and Capacity Building 2025 event was officially held today, July 30, 2025, as a strategic initiative to encourage the strengthening of journal management capacity in various institutions, including within the Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ).

This program, fully supported by the Journal House – under the Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) UPNVJ – aims to bridge the gap in understanding and implementing the principles set by the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) – an international body that has become a primary reference for indexing quality, transparent, and ethical open access scientific journals.

In his welcoming speech, the Secretary of LPPM UPNVJ, Dr. Ibnu Malkan Bakhrul Ilmi, S.Gz, M.Si, expressed his appreciation to all participants present at this training, consisting of 46 journal managers from both UPNVJ and other educational institutions.

He emphasized that journals are a university priority program. “Our Rector has a target for one study program to be mandatory to have one journal. His target is for all journals to achieve national accreditation rankings, at least entering the SINTA index,” said Dr. Ibnu.

Furthermore, Dr. Ibnu highlighted the importance of journals as part of UPNVJ’s income-generating strategy as a Public Service Agency (BLU), where every journal manager will receive remuneration points and incentives, both for accredited journals and those still in process.

“We are committed to ensuring journal quality by facilitating indexation to DOAJ. Journals indexed in DOAJ are guaranteed to be credible and meet international standards,” added Dr. Ibnu.

UPNVJ’s Journal House also presented the main speaker, Ikhwan Arief, M.Sc., who is a DOAJ Ambassador and Managing Editor.

His presence significantly added value to the training, bringing practical perspectives and international experience in the management and indexing of scientific journals.

Ikhwan will provide direct guidance today to participants in understanding DOAJ standards and effective journal registration strategies.

This activity is not merely a technical training but also a collaborative forum that brings together scientific journal managers to form a sustainable and global standard publication ecosystem.

With an educational approach and capacity building, this activity is a concrete step in expanding DOAJ’s reach and strengthening institutional commitment to global open access principles.

UPNVJ reaffirms its commitment to supporting the quality and integrity of scientific publications as part of strengthening academic competitiveness at both national and international levels through this training.

“Happy learning. May the knowledge provided by the speakers today be beneficial for the development of journals in our institutions,” concluded Dr. Ibnu. (www.upnvj.ac.id)
