Enviro News Asia, Bogor – The Department of Biology at IPB University once again hosted the prestigious international event, The 6th International Conference on Biosciences (ICoBio) 2025, held on 5–6 August 2025 at the IPB International Convention Center, Bogor.
Carrying the overarching theme “Bioscience Innovations Toward Nation’s Sovereignty”, the conference served as a platform for scientists, researchers, and practitioners to engage in discussions, foster collaborations, and respond to various global challenges through bioscience approaches.
Chair of ICoBio 2025, Prof. Rika Raffiudin, explained that this year’s edition differs from the previous ones in its sharper focus on national sovereignty.
“We added the phrase Nation’s Sovereignty to the theme because we want to highlight that bioscience innovations play a significant role in strengthening Indonesia’s sovereignty across various sectors,” Prof. Rika said in an official statement from IPB University.
Prof. Rika emphasized that the theme is closely aligned with global targets, particularly the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“We always connect our discussions to the SDGs, especially Goal 17 on Partnership. Through collaboration with diverse partners across inter- and transdisciplinary fields, we can achieve great things and address many issues comprehensively,” she added.
The conference is expected to yield tangible benefits in the form of research collaborations, scholarships, and scientific publications.
“We have already established several research and scholarship partnerships. Moreover, many students are participating in scientific presentations, which will later result in Scopus-indexed publications,” Prof. Rika noted.
IPB University’s Vice Rector for Global Connectivity, Cooperation, and Alumni, Prof. Iskandar Z. Siregar, stated that the theme of ICoBio 2025 aligns with Indonesia’s national strategy as outlined in President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita, particularly in the areas of food and energy security, environmental resilience, and technological independence.
The highlight of ICoBio 2025 will feature prominent keynote speakers, including Prof. Rizaldi Boer (Director of CCROM-SEAP) and Dr. Amandine Hénon from the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle (MNHN), France.
Other distinguished speakers include Prof. Nampiah Sukarno (IPB University), Dr. Sanjay Swarup (National University of Singapore), Dr. Stéphane Jamain (INSERM, France), and Prof. Rusea Go (Universiti Putra Malaysia).
In addition, ICoBio 2025 will host a side event, The 7th Summer Course in Biology, with the topic Tropical Insect Biology.
The program will also feature interactive poster sessions, panel discussions, and parallel sessions to facilitate networking and interdisciplinary dialogue among participants.
All accepted papers will be published in the IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, indexed by Scopus. Selected works will also be invited for publication in affiliated journals such as the HAYATI Journal of Biosciences and others. (*)
