Ministry of Environment Monitors 921 Companies with Environmental Violations

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – The Ministry of Environment (KLH) has tightened its oversight of 921 companies identified as problematic in terms of environmental protection and management. This step follows a series of environmental damage and pollution cases reported in several regions.

Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq emphasized that the government will not tolerate businesses that disregard regulations. According to Rizal Irawan, Deputy for Environmental Law Enforcement at KLH, the monitoring results revealed that 845 companies received administrative sanctions, 16 companies were referred to local governments for handling, 18 companies are still undergoing environmental dispute resolution, and 39 companies are facing criminal proceedings.

Nevertheless, there has been positive progress: 12 companies have corrected their violations, and 24 companies have been declared compliant and consistently committed to environmental preservation.

“All business operators are obliged to comply with environmental regulations as part of their commitment to maintaining ecosystem sustainability,” Rizal stressed. He added that KLH will continue to apply Multidoor Enforcement—ranging from administrative sanctions and civil dispute resolution to criminal prosecution—in accordance with the mandate of the law. This firm action is expected to serve as a warning for all businesses to prioritize environmental compliance and to encourage collective efforts to preserve Indonesia’s natural environment. (*)
