Kemenhut Confirms Nature Tourism in West Bali National Park Complies with Regulations and Zoning Principles

Enviro News Asia, Bali — Indonesia’s Ministry of Forestry has affirmed that all nature-based tourism activities conducted within West Bali National Park are fully compliant with existing regulations and zoning policies, following public concerns regarding activities in the conservation area.

The clarification was issued after administrative and field verifications confirmed that ongoing activities are located within the designated utilization zone of the ազգային park. This zone is legally allocated for limited nature tourism and forms part of the official zoning system designed to balance conservation and sustainable use.

According to the Ministry, all tourism activities have obtained the required government approvals, including environmental permits and business licenses for ecosystem service utilization. These activities are therefore considered lawful and aligned with the park’s management framework.

Implementation is carried out in accordance with the official management plan of West Bali National Park and is subject to direct supervision by the park authority. Monitoring is conducted regularly to ensure compliance with conservation principles, particularly the protection of key wildlife habitats and coastal ecosystems that characterize the park.

Head of Public Relations and International Cooperation Bureau, Ristianto Pribadi, emphasized that the government applies strict oversight for all activities within conservation areas, especially in ecologically sensitive sites such as West Bali National Park.

He stated that all forms of utilization must undergo rigorous permitting processes, adhere to zoning regulations, and remain under full government supervision. The current activities, he added, have fulfilled all these requirements.

Ristianto further highlighted that the management approach prioritizes the precautionary principle and long-term sustainability, ensuring that tourism development contributes economic value without compromising ecological integrity.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to transparent, accountable, and conservation-based management of protected areas, ensuring that environmental protection and sustainable benefits can be maintained for future generations. (*)
