Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni Declares Indonesia Ready to Enter New Era of Carbon Markets at London Climate Action Week

Enviro News Asia, London – Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni has reaffirmed Indonesia’s leadership in global climate action at The Coalition Senior Representatives Meeting during London Climate Action Week, declaring that Indonesia has officially entered a new phase of credible, transparent, and high-impact carbon market implementation through the strengthening of forestry sector governance. Indonesia, he said, is no longer merely designing policies but has moved well into the stage of practical, real-world implementation.

Indonesia’s forestry sector leadership is demonstrated through the issuance of Ministerial Regulations No. 6 and No. 7 of 2026, as implementing regulations under Presidential Regulation No. 110 of 2025. These regulations provide a strong legal foundation to ensure governance, environmental integrity, and regulatory certainty for sustainable investors.

As concrete proof of this infrastructure readiness, the Ministry of Forestry is scheduled to hold a ministerial approval handover ceremony and issue forestry sector carbon credits of a massive volume exceeding 30 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent on July 6, 2026.

This major step will be followed swiftly by the launch of the Carbon Unit Registry System (SRUK) on July 9, 2026, as the primary infrastructure of the national carbon market. The SRUK will strengthen market transparency, accountability, and confidence while providing greater certainty for project developers and global investors.

Alongside the launch, a number of Indonesian forestry carbon projects will also be registered under internationally recognized standards, reinforcing Indonesia’s readiness to manage its enormous natural-based solution potential spanning tropical forests, peatlands, and mangroves, as well as its exploration of future technologies such as biochar and Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS).

Minister Raja Juli Antoni called on the international community to undertake three collective actions. The approach begins with sending a strong market signal on the crucial role of high-integrity carbon credits, encouraging global corporations and financial institutions to integrate quality carbon credits into their climate transition strategies, and strengthening international cooperation under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Through equal collaboration that respects national priorities, Indonesia declared its full readiness to partner with all global partners in realizing a larger, stronger, and more trusted global carbon market ecosystem.
