Enviro News Asia, Batang – President Prabowo Subianto has instructed a nationwide tree-planting campaign aimed at restoring Indonesia’s green landscapes and strengthening the country’s response to climate change. The directive was delivered during his working visit to Batang, Central Java, where he attended the Mass Housing Loan Agreement (FLPP) and Housing Credit Program (KPP) event, accompanied by Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni.
In his remarks, President Prabowo emphasized that environmental conservation is an essential pillar of Indonesia’s long-term development. He stressed that reforestation must become a national priority to address increasingly unpredictable weather patterns and the impacts of global warming.
“If the number of trees has significantly declined, we must plant hundreds of millions of trees,” President Prabowo said, calling for a nationwide movement to restore the country’s forest cover and green spaces.
The President also instructed the Ministry of Forestry to establish nursery centers across Indonesia to ensure a reliable supply of high-quality tree seedlings. The initiative aims to provide every province, city, and regency with sufficient planting materials to support large-scale greening programs while enhancing the beauty and environmental quality of urban and rural areas.
Responding to the directive, Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni stated that the Ministry of Forestry has already developed a nationwide network of forest nurseries across all provinces. Among the largest facilities are the Rumpin Nursery in Bogor Regency and the Mentawir Nursery in Indonesia’s new capital city (IKN), both capable of producing millions of seedlings annually to support national reforestation efforts.
The ministry also encouraged public participation in the national tree-planting movement. Indonesian citizens can obtain tree seedlings free of charge by presenting a valid national identity card (KTP) and submitting a request through the government’s free seedling program.
President Prabowo expressed confidence that strong collaboration between the central government, regional administrations, communities, and other stakeholders would help achieve the vision of a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Indonesia.
He concluded by emphasizing that protecting the environment is a shared national responsibility and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preserving Indonesia’s natural heritage for future generations through large-scale reforestation and environmental stewardship. (*)
