Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – COP30 President André Aranha Corrêa do Lago has called for global support for the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance (NCQG) amounting to $1.3 trillion at the upcoming 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, in November 2025.
In his first open letter, Lago emphasized the urgency of collective action to address the climate crisis and highlighted key issues that must be discussed at COP30. He stated that this financial roadmap should serve as a catalyst for low-carbon energy transitions and climate resilience in developing countries.
“To achieve climate targets, both adaptation and mitigation financing must be scaled up significantly,” he said on Thursday, March 13.
The 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) will take place in Belém, Brazil, from November 10-21, 2025. The realization of the $1.3 trillion climate finance commitment is expected to be one of the central issues discussed during the high-level summit.
Brazil’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, described the COP30 President’s letter as a call to governments, civil society, scientists, businesses, Indigenous peoples, and local communities to bridge differences and unite in a new era of climate action focused on fulfilling the commitments of the Paris Agreement. One of these commitments includes the decision to draft the Global Ethical Stocktake (GES)—a global initiative aimed at strengthening the effort to limit temperature rise to a maximum of 1.5°C—at COP30.
