Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — The Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, Raja Juli Antoni, has called on all parties to heighten vigilance against the threat of forest and land fires, especially during the first ten days of August 2025.
This period is predicted to be the most vulnerable time for wildfires across Indonesia.
Minister Raja Juli Antoni made the statement following a coordination meeting on forest and land fire monitoring with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), and eight governors from regions identified as having high wildfire risk.
The coordination meeting was held at the BNPB Office in Jakarta on Tuesday (July 28, 2025).
“Almost all provinces are under alert status during the first ten days of August. The combination of extreme weather, low rainfall, limited cloud formation, and dry land conditions increases the potential for forest fires,” Minister Raja Juli Antoni explained in an official statement.
He also noted that the threat of forest and land fires is expected to continue through September 2025, although the intensity is projected to decrease with the anticipated arrival of the rainy season in October.
The Minister of Forestry emphasized the importance of synergy among all stakeholders—government agencies, communities, and fire prevention volunteers—to conduct early detection, field monitoring, and continuous public awareness campaigns.
The Mount Merbabu National Park Authority, through its field teams, continues to carry out early prevention measures and routine joint patrols with Fire Concerned Communities (MPA), university partners, and other stakeholders.
Efforts to improve readiness include strengthening human resources, equipment availability, and the use of monitoring applications such as Smart Patrol and the Forest and Land Fire Patrol system. (*)
