Enhancing the Quality of Forestry Human Resources, Ministry of Forestry Collaborates with Indonesian Forest Entrepreneurs Association

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – The Agency for Forestry Human Resource Extension and Development (BP2SDM) of the Ministry of Forestry has partnered with the Indonesian Forest Entrepreneurs Association (APHI) to improve the quality of forestry human resources in support of the Asta Cita goals of President Prabowo-Gibran’s administration.

“We hope this collaboration will be productive and successful in the future,” said Head of BP2SDM, Indra Exploitasia, during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BP2SDM and APHI on Strengthening Forestry Human Resources and Development of State Forestry Vocational High Schools in Jakarta on Monday (February 17, 2025).

The MoU was signed by Indra Exploitasia, Head of BP2SDM, and Prof. Indroyono Soesilo, Chairman of APHI.

Indra stated that the collaboration is expected to enhance the capacity of forestry human resources, particularly for students of State Forestry Vocational High Schools (SMKK). She hopes that APHI members will provide opportunities for students to undergo fieldwork internships.

“Our hope is that SMKK students can become skilled workers in the forestry industry to support the President’s vision of downstreaming the forestry sector,” Indra said.

She further explained that SMKK students are highly potential human resources, with many graduates holding strategic positions in forestry management, including senior roles within the Ministry of Forestry.

Additionally, Indra emphasized that BP2SDM is prepared to support the capacity-building of human resources within Business Licensing for Forest Utilization (PBPH) companies that are members of APHI. BP2SDM operates training centers that can assist PBPH companies in addressing forestry management challenges, including increasing productivity and implementing multi-business forestry initiatives to support food and energy self-sufficiency.

Meanwhile, APHI Chairman Indroyono Soesilo expressed hope that the collaboration between APHI and BP2SDM will continue to grow and help APHI members meet their needs for forestry workforce and technical personnel to achieve sustainable forest management.

“We recognize the importance of professional human resources in the forestry business sector to achieve sustainable forest management,” Indroyono stated.

He further explained that APHI members will undertake numerous activities to support government programs and achieve the Asta Cita goals of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration, which require professional human resource support. Among these priorities are food and energy security.

“Competent human resources will play a crucial role in achieving government program objectives related to land-based sector support for food and energy security, as outlined in Asta Cita,” Indroyono said.

He revealed that several APHI members have allocated land for food and energy security programs, which will be implemented through agroforestry models using a Multi-Business Forestry approach.

Indroyono also highlighted the need for BP2SDM’s support, as APHI members will be involved in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, particularly in villages within and around PBPH concession areas.

Additionally, APHI seeks BP2SDM’s assistance in enhancing human resource quality for the implementation of carbon trading in the forestry sector.

The signing of the MoU between BP2SDM and APHI was also attended by Senior Advisor to the Minister of Forestry Bambang Soepijanto, APHI Vice Chairman for Legal Affairs, Public Relations, and Cooperation Erwansyah, Chairman of the APHI Human Resources Committee Tjipta Purwita, as well as heads of BP2SDM training centers and vocational school principals.
