EU Promotes Global Circular Solutions at World Expo Osaka

Enviro News Asia, Brussels — The European Commission and the European Economic and Social Committee will organize the Circular Economy Days at the World Expo Osaka, Japan, on September 22–24, 2025. The event aims to highlight the potential of the circular economy in addressing global climate challenges while promoting inclusive growth.

The Circular Economy Days will facilitate dialogue and collaboration among European, Japanese, and international stakeholders, including policymakers, business actors, and innovators in the field of circular economy. Together, they will explore strategies, share best practices, and establish partnerships to advance circular solutions across sectors and countries.

Jessika Roswall, EU Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience, and Competitive Circular Economy, will participate in three high-level events on September 22. According to the European Commission’s official release, three main sessions will be held.

In the textiles and fashion session, Commissioner Roswall will address solutions such as redesigning production and consumption, extending product lifecycles through repair and recycling, reducing textile waste, and replacing fossil-based materials with bio-based alternatives. This aligns with the EU’s Sustainable Textiles Strategy, which seeks to improve sustainability and circularity in the textile and fashion sectors.

In the sustainable cities session, Commissioner Roswall will present how water management and circular economy practices can enhance urban resilience against extreme weather, creating greener and more inclusive cities. Mayors from Europe and Japan at the forefront of the green transition will showcase environmental policies that have delivered tangible results for their citizens. Within the framework of the New European Bauhaus (NEB), the session will feature inspiring examples of sustainable architecture, the use of innovative materials, and urban strategies that build resilience to floods and droughts by working in harmony with nature.

Meanwhile, the circular diplomacy session, as the final session, will highlight the importance of global cooperation in the transition toward a circular, resilient, and fair economy. The discussion will focus on EU–Japan collaboration and the development of the circular economy amid current geopolitical challenges. (*)
