Indonesia Emphasizes Importance of National Harmonization in Establishing the TFFF and TFIF

Enviro News Asia, Belém — Haruni Krisnawati, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Forestry for Climate Change, represented the Ministry of Forestry at the TFFF Informal Meeting: Exchange Initial Views on the Forthcoming Steps Related to the Establishment of both the TFFF and the Tropical Forest Investment Fund (TFIF) held on 14 November 2025 in the Blue Zone of COP30 UNFCCC.

The meeting focused on follow-up steps for the institutional development of the Tropical Forest Finance Facility (TFFF) and the Tropical Forest Investment Fund (TFIF) following their global launch on 6 November 2025. Representatives from Brazil, Indonesia, Germany, Norway, and France participated in the discussion.

Indonesia expressed its appreciation to Brazil as the initiator of the TFFF and welcomed this global initiative as an important effort to mobilize financing for the protection of tropical forests. The delegation stressed that any mechanism under development must remain aligned with national priorities and the existing climate architecture to ensure effective and sustainable implementation.

Indonesia highlighted that the government is currently conducting internal coordination across ministries, led by the Coordinating Ministry, to discuss the most appropriate governance and institutional structure for the TFFF. This process is vital to ensure harmonization with national policies, prevent overlap with existing institutions, and establish clear roles and responsibilities for implementation.

During the meeting, Indonesia also reiterated that the country already has the National Forest Monitoring System (SIMONTANA), which serves as the foundation for monitoring tropical forests. The government continues to refine and harmonize methodologies—including definitions, data sources, reporting systems, transparency, and verification—to ensure full alignment with TFFF requirements and eligibility criteria.

Indonesia emphasized its commitment to continued engagement, constructive dialogue, and close collaboration with all partners involved in refining the design of the TFFF and TFIF. The country seeks to ensure that this new global initiative delivers tangible benefits for tropical forest protection while maintaining coherence with national systems and priorities. (*)
