Enviro News Asia, Makasar – Indonesia’s Ministry of Forestry has strengthened its conflict of interest management system as part of efforts to promote integrity, transparency, and accountability across its institutions, in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to enforce the law without conflicts of interest.
The initiative was implemented through an evaluation of conflict of interest management involving the Ministry’s Technical Implementation Units (UPTs) across South Sulawesi. The program was held in Makassar from July 21 to 24, 2026, and organized by the Ministry’s Inspectorate General.
The evaluation follows the implementation of Forestry Minister Regulation No. 13 of 2025 on Conflict of Interest Management and Forestry Minister Instruction No. 2 of 2026, which provide the framework for preventing and managing conflicts of interest within the ministry.
According to the Ministry, the evaluation forms part of the 2026 Anti-Corruption Workshop follow-up action plan after a workshop conducted on July 15 with the participation of Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
Investigation Inspector Mohamad Arief Priana said that being in a conflict of interest situation does not automatically constitute misconduct, as such situations are sometimes unavoidable. However, problems arise when public officials make decisions based on personal interests rather than public responsibilities.
He emphasized that an effective conflict of interest management mechanism is essential to prevent corruption and strengthen public confidence in government institutions.
The Ministry said it will continue strengthening public service digitalization, risk management, gratuity control, the Whistleblowing System, State Officials’ Wealth Report (LHKPN) compliance, and Integrity Zone development throughout its organizational units.
Following the evaluation, participants attended technical training on using the Ministry’s Accountable and Responsive Conflict of Interest Management Information System (SINAR), which records officials’ potential personal interests related to their duties.
The Ministry reported that 1,089 civil servants from its South Sulawesi offices have registered their personal interest disclosures through the SINAR platform and committed to declaring any actual conflicts of interest encountered while performing their official duties. (*)
