Indonesia-France Strengthen Cooperation on Sustainable Forest Management

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, officially welcomed the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, in a bilateral meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

This state visit marks a significant moment in commemorating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and France, as well as reinforcing over a decade of strategic partnership between the two countries.

During the visit, the Indonesian and French governments also strengthened cooperation in various fields, including sustainable forest management. The collaboration was marked by the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI).

“The forestry cooperation between Indonesia and France covers 12 areas,” said Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

Raja Juli noted that the cooperation in the forestry sector includes sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation and protection, as well as climate and disaster mitigation. “These areas of cooperation are highly beneficial for both parties,” said Raja Juli Antoni.

On this occasion, President Prabowo emphasized that the relationship between Indonesia and France has been based on strong political cooperation and mutual respect for shared principles.

“Our bilateral relations are built on strong and solid political cooperation, rooted in mutual respect and the principles we uphold together—sovereignty, independence, human rights, and democracy,” stated President Prabowo Subianto in his official remarks.

Although cooperation between the two countries has developed rapidly, President Prabowo believes that there is still much potential and many new opportunities to be explored between Indonesia and France.

He welcomed the bilateral meeting, especially amid the current global geopolitical and geoeconomic uncertainties.

At the same event, President Macron expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome extended by the Indonesian government. He underlined the importance of this visit in deepening the strategic cooperation between the two nations.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity to bring new meaning to the strategic partnership that has just been reaffirmed by Mr. President,” said President Macron. *
