Indonesia Reclaims 2.37 Million Hectares of Forest Areas, Saving Rp10.2 Trillion for the Public

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Forestry, Rohmat Marzuki, attended the official handover of administrative fines totaling Rp10.27 trillion, tax revenues, and reclaimed forest areas covering 2,373,171.75 hectares at the Attorney General’s Office complex in Jakarta on Wednesday (13/5/2026).

The event marked part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen forest area enforcement, improve legal compliance, and optimize state revenues from natural resources through cross-ministerial coordination and the Forest Area Enforcement Task Force (Satgas PKH).

During the event, Prabowo Subianto emphasized that reclaiming forest areas under state control was a constitutional mandate to ensure Indonesia’s natural wealth is managed for the greatest benefit of the people.

“The earth, water, and all natural resources contained within them, as mandated by the 1945 Constitution, must be controlled by the state,” President Prabowo stated.

The President also expressed appreciation to the Forest Area Enforcement Task Force and all institutions involved in safeguarding forest areas and securing state revenues. According to him, the effort reflects the government’s strong commitment to protecting Indonesia’s natural resources, including the forestry sector, so they can be utilized for public welfare.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Forestry reaffirmed its full support for forest area enforcement measures as part of strengthening sustainable, equitable, and law-abiding forest governance across the country.

The recovery of more than 2.37 million hectares of forest land and the collection of over Rp10 trillion in administrative sanctions are considered major milestones in Indonesia’s efforts to improve governance in the natural resources sector while reinforcing state authority over forest management.
