Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — Indonesia is reinforcing its energy diplomacy efforts as President Prabowo Subianto, accompanied by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, embarked on an official visit to Russia to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the energy sector.
The visit aims to expand strategic partnerships between Indonesia and Russia, with a key focus on ensuring long-term national energy security amid ongoing global geopolitical uncertainties.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the minister’s presence highlights the critical role of the energy sector in safeguarding Indonesia’s national interests. The visit is expected to open opportunities for more concrete collaboration between the two countries.
President Prabowo is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, where discussions will center on continued energy cooperation, including efforts to maintain stable oil supply for Indonesia.
The agenda comes at a time when global energy markets are facing volatility due to geopolitical tensions, affecting supply chains and pricing dynamics worldwide. Strengthening partnerships with key energy-producing countries is seen as a strategic move to mitigate such risks.
In addition to energy cooperation, both leaders are expected to exchange views on global geopolitical developments. Indonesia is set to reaffirm its commitment to maintaining international stability and peace while enhancing strategic ties with partner countries.
The Indonesian delegation departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Sunday night and is expected to arrive in Moscow after approximately 12 hours of non-stop flight. Upon arrival, President Prabowo will proceed directly to a one-on-one meeting with President Putin.
The Ministry emphasized that this visit represents a significant step in expanding cross-border energy cooperation to support sustainable national energy resilience in an increasingly uncertain global landscape. (*)
