Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has officially inaugurated five parks that will operate 24 hours a day: Menteng Park and Lapangan Banteng Park in Central Jakarta, as well as Langsat Park, Ayodia Park, and Martha Tiahahu Literacy Park in South Jakarta.
The symbolic inauguration was held by Governor Pramono at Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta, on Friday evening (May 16).
“The inauguration of these five 24-hour parks is aimed at supporting the function of green open spaces (RTH) as inclusive parks for residents, while still preserving their ecological roles,” Governor Pramono said in his official statement.
The Governor expressed his delight at the enthusiastic public response to the activation of 24-hour parks, especially at Lapangan Banteng Park.
Numerous community groups were observed organizing activities that brought the park to life with various positive nighttime events.
“To be honest, I was truly surprised at how impressive Lapangan Banteng Park is.
The communities that showed up demonstrated incredible enthusiasm.
I met with the night cycling community, reptile enthusiasts, cat and dog lovers, nighttime park lovers, yoga groups, and many others,” he said.
Governor Pramono hopes that the availability of 24-hour parks will provide Jakarta residents with more spaces to interact, connect, share, and support one another according to their interests.
He believes that through these parks, a spirit of tolerance, togetherness, a sense of belonging to Jakarta, and mutual respect among residents will flourish.
“Hopefully, with these five 24-hour parks now open, Jakarta residents will have more space to enjoy their time after work. We have libraries, museums, and now these parks.
There will be more activities we’re planning to prepare, so that residents have even more space to express themselves,” he explained.
Furthermore, Governor Pramono emphasized that his administration will continue to monitor and evaluate the quality of green open spaces in Jakarta, and will foster innovative collaborations with various stakeholders, including the private sector and community groups.
As for supervision, CCTV cameras have been installed in the park areas and are monitored by security personnel.
“I invite all Jakarta residents and communities to take part in the activation of these 24-hour parks and to help maintain them properly,” he concluded. *
