Jasa Marga and Ministry of Environment Collaborate to Manage Waste in Rest Areas

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – PT Jasa Marga, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment (LH), has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Waste, Hazardous, and Toxic Material Management at Rest Area KM 57A of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road. This agreement reinforces the shared commitment to waste control at Rest and Service Areas (TIP) along toll roads, whether managed by private partners or Jasa Marga’s subsidiaries, as part of efforts to enhance Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) aspects.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Environment / Head of the Environmental Control Agency, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, Deputy for Waste, Hazardous, and Toxic Material Management, Ade Palguna Ruteka, along with his team, as well as Jasa Marga’s President Director, Subakti Syukur, who was accompanied by Jasa Marga’s Director of Operations, Fitri Wiyanti, and Director of Business Development, M. Agus Setiawan.

On this occasion, Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq emphasized the importance of waste control in public locations such as TIP, especially during the 1446H/2025 Eid holiday. “With 146 million people traveling for the holiday, the potential waste generation of 73,240 tons poses a challenge that can be turned into an opportunity. Through strategic cooperation and innovative solutions such as this MoU, we are optimistic that waste management will become more effective, creating a cleaner and healthier environment for all road users,” Hanif stated in his remarks on Monday (31/3/2025).

He highlighted the issuance of Circular Letter No. 02 of 2025 by the Ministry of Environment as a strategic step to control waste accumulation during the Eid celebrations, whether at celebration venues, tourist destinations, or along travel routes.

Hanif also praised Jasa Marga’s efforts in waste management at TIPs, which include providing segregated waste bins, Temporary Waste Storage (TPS) facilities, and transporting waste from TPS to processing locations. He hopes this initiative can serve as an example for other public facilities such as toll road rest areas, terminals, stations, and ports, enabling more effective and comprehensive waste management.

Jasa Marga’s President Director, Subakti Syukur, stated that this collaboration is a tangible example of synergy between Jasa Marga and the government in creating a healthier and more sustainable environment. “We believe that optimal waste management will have a significant impact on ESG aspects and our business sustainability while also providing positive economic, social, and environmental benefits for the community,” said Subakti.
