Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — The Ministry of Environment and the Environmental Control Agency conducted inspections on waste management practices across the hospitality sector and key public facilities in Jakarta on March 17, 2026, to ensure environmentally responsible conditions during the upcoming Eid homecoming period.
Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq led the monitoring effort, targeting hotels, restaurants, cafés (HOREKA), and several high-traffic locations expected to experience a surge in public activity. The inspection followed earlier evaluations carried out on March 14–15, 2026, at transportation hubs such as stations, terminals, and Trans-Java rest areas.
The monitoring covered several strategic locations, including Mal Taman Anggrek, Terminal Tanjung Priok, Pasar Rawasari, Terminal Kampung Rambutan, and Pasar Santa. Authorities assessed the readiness of these facilities to handle increased mobility, which could significantly raise waste generation.
The minister emphasized that maintaining cleanliness is essential to ensuring a safe and comfortable travel experience, in line with directives from the President of the Republic of Indonesia. He called on the public to improve awareness of waste management and urged communities around these locations to take responsibility for preserving their environment.
He also stressed that facility operators, business actors, and local authorities must ensure the availability of proper sanitation infrastructure, optimize waste management systems, and implement concrete waste reduction measures. The ministry is currently enforcing compliance, including the application of administrative sanctions to public facilities and residential areas that fail to manage their waste properly.
The Ministry encouraged all stakeholders to support the “Mudik Minim Sampah” initiative by reducing single-use plastics, providing segregated waste bins, and maintaining cleanliness in public spaces and transportation facilities. This effort aims to create a safer, more comfortable, and environmentally friendly homecoming experience for the public. (*)
