Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — The Indonesian government, together with businesses, academics, research institutions, civil society organizations, and international partners, reinforced cross-sector collaboration to position biodiversity as a key driver of the country’s sustainable economic growth during the Indonesia Biodiversity Business Forum.
The forum highlighted the development of biodiversity credits, the strengthening of Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) mechanisms, and multi-stakeholder partnerships as strategic initiatives to ensure biodiversity conservation contributes to both environmental protection and long-term economic development.
Commission Manager of the Climate and Biodiversity Hub at GIZ Indonesia & ASEAN, Karin Allgoewer, said the initiative is supported by Germany through the International Climate Initiative (IKI), which promotes Indonesia–Germany cooperation in strengthening institutional capacity, policy development, and partnerships for the sustainable conservation and utilization of biodiversity.
According to Allgoewer, GIZ Indonesia is working with the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas), the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the Ministry of Environment/Environmental Control Agency, and other ministries and research institutions to ensure that the Indonesian Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (IBSAP) 2025–2045 is aligned with the country’s national development planning.
She explained that the strategy enables Indonesia to identify its biological resources, assess biodiversity at risk, and determine priority actions needed to safeguard the nation’s natural wealth.
The forum also served as a platform to encourage new partnerships among government agencies, the private sector, financial institutions, and innovation developers in creating nature-positive projects that deliver both ecological benefits and economic value.
Through these collaborative efforts, Indonesia aims to transform biodiversity from a protected natural asset into a strategic foundation for green economic growth, community prosperity, and stronger national leadership in the global sustainability agenda. (*)
